News articles supporting the case for low cost healthcare insurance and health cash plans

Nearly 1 million employees, almost one in 25, take at least one month off sick each year according to the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) which contributes to a burden for employers of £9 billion a year for sick pay and other costs.  The DWP estimates that sickness amongst working age people costs the UK economy around £100 billion a year!

The UK work and pensions minister, Mike Penning, said that more than 130 million days a year are lost due to sickness absence in Great Britain which has a substantial impact on workers, employers and taxpayers and “we are taking action to get people back into work”

Employers, who shoulder most of the costs, often have little idea of the financial impact on their businesses according to Orchard Healthcare.   The causes of absenteeism are complex but much of it is linked to delays in NHS healthcare.

  • Waiting to see a doctor;
  • delays in testing and diagnosis;
  • waiting for consultant led treatment; and
  • post operative care

can prolong absence from work with significant added costs for employer and employees alike.

Orchard Healthcare offer affordable plans which can get employees back to work faster through a range of measures which can prove highly cost effective.
