Junior doctors have announced plans to hold five consecutive days of strikes later this month, the longest strike action ever taken. All out strikes will take place from 8am to 5pm on the 12th to 16th September (inclusive).
Mr Hunt called the plans 'devastating' and believes that it will result in approximately 100,000 operations being cancelled and 1 million hospital appointments postponed.
This could be the start of protracted strike action by the junior doctors with a BMA paper stating that there could be 5 day strikes each month for the rest of the year.
With only 12 days notice for these latest strikes hospitals will need to postpone thousands of operations so that consultants can cover for junior doctors in emergency care.
If you have been affected by postponed appointments consider self funding your treatment through a health cash plan whereby 50% of the cost could be covered through the scheme. For more information please call us on 01905 729090.
